Host Darren Gruner brings over 30 years’ experience and passion for improving outdoor living space to his weekly hour on 1230 WBZT – and makes it as much fun for listeners as it is for him. His keen eye for design and innovative ideas have won him multiple bids to improve and manage multi-million dollar projects and properties resulting in centerfold spreads in major outdoor living publications – as well as instructional pieces for the DIYs among us!
Besides his two wonderful children, his pride and joy are his two companies KentuckyBlue and Totalscape Design. He founded Kentucky Blue just out of High School in 1982. He managed to build a successful company leading the industry in “saving his customers lawns, their money and our environment” long before the “green” movement. Totalscape Design was born when he realized that taking care of lawns was only a small part of what he does for our environment. Totalscape Design embodies his philosophy when it comes to outdoor living: Dream it, Design it. Live it!
A lot of the fun and energy on Turf’s Up Radio comes from his side-kicks at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ, the second location each week for this live and lively hour. Andrew Zayicek is a digital media major with a concentration in Radio, Television and Film. A big sports fan, he brings the same enthusiasm to the feature segments on the show, and shares the back and forth on-air fun with Darren live from the studios up north. Matt St. Onge used to major in Chemistry and Secondary Education – until the broadcasting bug bit and wouldn’t let go. He’s the Assistant Program Director of WRRC-FM (“The Bronc”) and is proud of his station’s ranking as number 15 on the long list of college radio stations, according to the Princeton Review.
